The commercial, transportation and entertainment sectors will also enjoy a boom with financial experts predicting a €380m boost to the national economy during the tournament. The 11,000 new jobs are the equivalent in man-hours of 6,000 full-time jobs spread over the year, according to Reinhold Mitterlehner, general secretary of the Austrian chamber of commerce. “The organisation and realisation of UEFA EURO 2008™ will result in an annual employment potential of about 6,000 jobs,” he said. Some 5,300 new positions will be generated in the security sector with a further 4,400 in catering spread over the four host cities, Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Klagenfurt. Austria are co-hosts of the tournament with Switzerland.
